Polling Officer

            At the time of poll, the District Election Officer under the Section 26 of the R.P. Act, 1951, nominates the Presiding Officer and Assistant Presiding Officer at the polling stations. The Section 159 of the R.P. Act has been revised in 1998. Under the revised Section 159, the employees of the Central Government, State Government, Panchayat, Local Bodies, Universities, Nationalised Banks, LIC, Government Companies registered under the Company Act, Government enterprises can also be nominated as polling officers at the polling stations. They are responsible under the provisions of Section 27 and 28 of this Act to see that the polling is carried out peacefully and as per the provisions of the rules.
